The midline pattern (green) triggers and repels the "left" activator (blue). Both sides adjacent to the midline compete for full activation. A minute asymmetry (pink) is sufficient that the left side wins. After surgical removal of midline and left side, first the midline and then the "left" activation regenerates in the right tissue.
