Lateral view on the organizing region: The Nieuwkoop center produces a singal that induces the trunk- (brown) and the head organizing region (black) within the mesoderm. The latter requires higher concentrations. Since the black region invaginates first, it forms the most anterior mesoderm (prechordal plate)
