Yen-Ping Hsueh receives the National Science and Technology Council Outstanding Research Award
Max Planck Institute for Biology Tübingen Director, Yen-Ping Hsueh, has been honoured with the prestigious 2025 Outstanding Research Award from the National Science and Technology Council (NSTC) of Taiwan. The award ceremony took place on the 29th April 2025, in Taipei. This award acknowledges exceptional scientific and technological talents who have made significant contributions to enhancing Taiwan’s academic and international standing.
Dr. Hsueh expressed delight upon receiving the NSTC outstanding award, citing it “as a powerful motivation for us to continue pushing the boundaries of biological science and contributing knowledge that benefits humanity.” She also extended her heartfelt gratitude to everyone whose dedication and commitment made this achievement possible.
About the NSTC Outstanding Research Award
The National Science and Technology Council (NSTC) Outstanding Research Award recognises individuals whose long-term contributions to basic or applied research have enhanced the academic standards and international reputation of Taiwan. Beyond academic impact, the award aims to stimulate social development, foster industrial applications, highlight the diverse value of scientific achievements, and strengthen the nation’s technological capabilities.
This year, the NSTC recognised 82 individuals across a broad range of fields. Among the awardees, 15 were from the natural sciences, 27 from engineering, 29 from life sciences, and 20 from the humanities and social sciences. Of these recipients, 18% were women and 82% were men. Awardees have demonstrated outstanding achievements in both fundamental theoretical research and forward-looking applications.
The National Science and Technology Council is a statutory agency in Taiwan responsible for promoting and funding academic research, scientific and technological development, and science parks. Notably, the NSTC is also a member of the Belmont Forum, an international partnership dedicated to funding research on environmental change and facilitating its application to address critical sustainability challenges in remote areas.
